Indian Tabla Styles for Yamaha PSR 550 Free Download The following is a list of styles for the Indian Tabla that can be played using the Yamaha PSR-550. These are not in the order they should be played, but they do offer a good variety of Indian rhythms. Some notes about playing these rhythms: It is important to avoid hitting two strings at the same time, and to maintain an even sound throughout; this will help produce a smooth rhythm. You will have to listen very carefully after you have played the rhythm, because of the great number of strikes within each of the rhythms. There are, however, breaks in between some of the more difficult passages. IRAKWOVE SUIT RAGHUVARI SUIT MOR GAT SUIT JHAPA SUIT SORGO TAALS NISHADTAALS - A set on seven beats with various maatras on each quarter. These are played without pause between patterns. These are played using Alap and Jhala only. NISHADA MELA DHAKAD MELA MELA SAMVADA - These are patterns that consist of a group of three (1-2-3, 2-3-4, 3-4-5). They can also be played at various speeds. They are played using Alap and Jhala only. RAGA PALLAVI - A play usually in 12 or 10 beats, with a different raga (melody) for each beat. For example: the first beat could be the raga "Bhairavi", the second beat "Bilaval", and so on. These are played using Alap and Jhala only. JHATTAAL - These patterns consist of a group of three (1-2-3, 2-3-4). They can also be played at various speeds. In this style, all notes are played with the same finger, and the fingers of one hand are never used for more than two notes at a time. The thumb plays the "naik" note of the "saattai" raga pattern. This is an extremely fast style that requires great musical dexterity. The "naik" finger will be placed on different strings in each pattern. The patterns can be played using Alap and Jhala only. There are a number of other styles as well, but they are not as commonly used as those mentioned above. Yamaha PSR-550 Handbuch, Yamaha Corporation of America, 1989-1992. Nayak, Satish.
